Stats and Data

I created this page in a attempt to convey information that is hard to grasp from the text of my resume, but it is often of interest to reviewers. This is bit of an experiment to see if these types of visualizations are useful.

Job Roles

FROM
TO

This visual is aimed at questions like: "How hands-on have you been?" or "How much management experience do you have?" For me, my responsibilities between being an individual contributor and a manager have ebbed and flowed within and across jobs.

  • Development - Activities around being a contributing software engineer and architect.
  • Management - Managing people, teams and all organization-focused activities.
  • Projects - Product and project management.
  • Systems - System administration, dev-ops and troubleshooting system issues.

The units of the graph are relative percentages of time spent on each category of work.

Programming Languages

FROM
TO

This visual is useful to help answer questions like: "What programming languages do you know?" and "How much experience do you have with programming language 'X'?" As most experienced developers know, the particular language is often not that important, so this is view may be nothing more than of historical significance to myself.

The units of the graph are average number of hours per day working in the language.

Responsibility Scope

FROM
TO

This visual shows the number of people I have been responsible for in either a lead engineering role or a personnel management role.

  • IC - Time as an individual contributor (IC), no direct responsibilities for others (responsibility = "1").
  • Lead - Time leading and directing a team, product or project.
  • Manage - Time leading and having personnel responsibility (includes direct and indirect reports).
